Santa Cruz & Paradera

Central residential areas beside the dry interior, Hooiberg and Arikok National Park.

Santa Cruz & Paradera, Aruba

History

Santa Cruz and Paradera grew as inland settlements around agriculture, churches and routes between the coast and interior. Cacti, diorite formations and the prominent Hooiberg shape the landscape.

Rock drawings made by Aruba's early inhabitants survive at Ayo. The area's nature and archaeology distinguish it from the tourist coast.

Character and living

The atmosphere is generally local and quieter, with detached homes, building lots and few large resorts. A car is more important, while Oranjestad and the northern beaches remain accessible.

Paradera includes Shiribana, Ayo, Bloemond and Piedra Plat. Roads, services and elevation differ by area, so viewing at different times of day is useful.
