Punda & Otrobanda
The historic districts on either side of Sint Anna Bay form the heart of Willemstad.

History
Punda began in the seventeenth century as a fortified trading settlement near Fort Amsterdam. When the walled centre became too small, Otrobanda expanded across Sint Anna Bay from the eighteenth century onward.
Together with Pietermaai and Scharloo, the districts form part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The street plan and colourful architecture show how European forms were adapted to the Caribbean climate and culture.
Character and living
The districts offer apartments, historic buildings, shops, dining and cultural venues within walking distance. The floating bridge and ferry provide direct links between both sides.
Living here is distinctly urban. For listed buildings, check maintenance duties, access, parking and the rules attached to protected heritage.
